What is stat.us?

stat.us is a new platform that allows sports fans to track and discuss the real-time stream of sports stats, scores, play-by-play, news, tweets, and conversations. Several news aggregators for sports already exist, but news is just a small part of what stat.us covers.

Every journey starts with a single step. Instead of working on the site for a year before releasing it publicly, I'm opening it up early so I can start collecting feedback now. Let me know what you think.

Why stat.us?

My first attempt to provide real-time sports information was StatTweets. After just three months, the 650 accounts I created in Twitter to represent every NFL, NBA, college fooball and basketball team gained over 60,000 followers.

Then without warning, Twitter suspended every account. Two months later, I shut down StatTweets and started working on stat.us.

I chose the domain stat.us because it is short (yes, there is an integrated link shortener coming) but it also starts with "stat" as do all other websites in the StatSheet Network. (Did you know the domain "stat.us" was originally considered for Twitter?)

What sports will be supported?

Initially I'm supporting American Football and Basketball, but soon I'll be adding Hockey, Football (Soccer) and Baseball. The goal is to support every major sport, if not with full play-by-play at least with scores, news, etc.

Take a look around. Give me some feedback. Remember, it is early on so there is still a lot to do, but I'm always interested in new perspectives or ideas for new features.

Will there be an API?

Of course! It is currently under development. Let me know how you'd like to use it.
